I am currently thinking about purchasing a street legal dune buggy, and I found one powered by a 2275cc stroker motor, but I am unsure as to its specs. I saw online that one person claimed it has 211 horsepower and can propel a 1957 full-body VW Bug through the quarter mile in 11.9 seconds, but I do not know what kind of fuel economy it gets or if that horsepower number is true. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. What are the specs on a 2275cc 1957 VW bug motor?THe horsepower seems high (as will be the fuel consumtion) but it will be more then enough to move a dune buggy all over the place.
THe down side is the engine size itself. That engine is going to throw off a LOT of heat which is hard on air cooled engines. If you are running this thing full throttle on the streets you are going to wear it down and your valves will stand a good chance of cooking over extended use.
It will require more care then the usual bug. My best single piece of advice is to change the oil often and check your valves (actually I guess that is TWO pieces of advice)..
Have fun...
.What are the specs on a 2275cc 1957 VW bug motor? That 2275 is going to produce a lot of heat. Upside to that I guess is that it will mounted on a buggy so it will exposed to the cooler air around it. That should help with the heat problem. The 211 horsepower doesnt quite sound right. i would assume its more around 180HP and will probably run the quarter in about high 12's or low 13's. The fuel economy can vary greatly. With a bigger engine like that most people tend to have a "lead foot" since tehy have the power they feel like they need to use often. I would bet in city driving it will probably get around 15-18 mpg. What are the specs on a 2275cc 1957 VW bug motor?211 seems a bit high. as a longtime vw fan and owner i would probably say around 150-160 but if you are putting it in a dune buggy, it will fly. fuel economy will not be the best since you will be feeding two big carbs but it won't be as bad as an suv. it comes down to a power to weight ratio. 1/4 mile in the mid-high 12's.
