How do i pop my hood with a DEAD BATTERY in a 2000 vw passat.?

I have a 2000 VW Passat and my battery is dead. I cannot Get into the car because the key does not turn in the trunk or door. I just want to get under the hood to replace the battery. Any suggestions other than breaking the window or calling a tow truck? I might get a new Audi A4, any reasons not to?How do i pop my hood with a DEAD BATTERY in a 2000 vw passat.?I assume that if the battery were charged that you could use your remote to open the door...



Not familiar with the passat but starters are starters.

If you can get to the starter solenoid and find the + battery cable, you could hook a battery charger or jumper cable there to charge the battery (the neg connection simply goes to some bare metal on the engine or vehicle frame). Some vehicles have the starter solenoid mounted to the starter and very frequently you can reach the starter from under the car. If the starter solenoid is not mounted to the starter, it will likely be difficult to reach. The other option would be the main output terminal of the alternator which also goes to the battery + terminal.



If you could find someone with a similar car or one at a used car lot where the salesman will let you look under the hood, you might be able to follow the battery cable to see where it goes.How do i pop my hood with a DEAD BATTERY in a 2000 vw passat.?

I think being locked out of your current VW due to a dead battery is plenty good reason not to get another VW! (In case you're not sure, Audi and VW is the same company and the cars are exactly the same except the Audis usually have Quattro.)



Anyway, you probably need to get a tow to the VW dealer. Tow+what the dealer will charge you, you better "get out you're f'in check book!"
Tools you will need: good sized sledge hammer.



Directions: take a good swing at the grille. Try to remove it as much as possible. Then, take another at the hood, try to work the hood out of the latch. (this may require multiple hits) If you have to get into the wreck sooner than you'll replace the battery, like if you'll want to blow it up. If the key won't turn, are you sure you have the right car? Maybe that is why the remote doesn't work either.
