Help with Exhaust Emmission Warning Light being on on my VW?

My girlfriend's VW Beetle has the engine shaped light with a little lightening strike through it on and it says "Check" What does this mean and is it expensive to fix. It has just had a new back box fitted and the Catalylictic Converter replaced. What can I do to get the light of and car fixed?Help with Exhaust Emmission Warning Light being on on my VW?Hi

This is the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) and it is telling you that there are one or more fault codes stored relating to a current problem with the cars engine management system, and I'm going to guess that its either LOW OUTPUT or INACTIVITY at the lambda (O2) sensor.

Either that or CATALYTIC EFFICIENCY BELOW THRESH HOLD. Which would just need resetting because the cat is new and it may just be a glitch.

Have the codes read out and then point your finger at me and laugh when you find that I'm way off!!!

Best regards

if you did the work yourself, take it to a reliable garage to have it checked out,it will need hooking up to a comp to findthe fault good luckHelp with Exhaust Emmission Warning Light being on on my VW?the father in law had this on his forester,it turned out he needed a new lambada sensor,on his there are two of them, and cost about 拢200.00 each.
