1997 Vw Jetta gl what does it means when the thermometer is flashing in the dash board?

Hi I currently have a 1997 Vw Jetta GL 2.0 The other day I was coming from school and suddenly the thermometer started flashing in the dash board separated from the thermometer on the side...then checked the car and found out that the radiator hose was broken....does it means the car was over heated....or the flashing of the thermometer was just a warning?1997 Vw Jetta gl what does it means when the thermometer is flashing in the dash board?it was over heating if you had light on, deepens how long you drove like that,change the hose ,then see what happens,also check the oil if is mixed with coolant ,you might blow head gasket1997 Vw Jetta gl what does it means when the thermometer is flashing in the dash board?There should have been a buzzer going off at the same time,if you stopped right away you should be ok.
