How much would it cost to replace a starter in a 96 VW Jetta?

I'm interested in buying a car for a really good price, the catch is that it needs a new starter. I'm a girl who knows nothing about cars, so my question is, how much would it cost (estimate) to replace the starter in a 96 VW Jetta? and, for $800 is it worth it?How much would it cost to replace a starter in a 96 VW Jetta?it depends how hard or easy it is to change the starter mortar you might try calling an auto supply store for a price on a starter for that car. also it depends how the car was maintained.did the previous owner change the mortar every 3000 miles. what i am trying to say is the car could be worth 800. maybe less depends on how it was mainttanedHow much would it cost to replace a starter in a 96 VW Jetta?800 dollars is DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! There is a website that you can go to and I found starters that at most cost about $180 dollars. It just depends what submodel you have. Here is the site...hope it helps in anyway possible. If it doesn't show up as a link copy and paste it.

This number will be high, find someone who charges much less to install it.

You can find people who can install it on Craigslist.

1. Make sure that it is the starter! (this is a common area of mis-diagnosis)

2.Interview people to find the best person to install it (How long will it take? How much will it cost??Do they have their own tools? Do they provide any type of warranty?

3.You can also go to auto forums and get good answers.
