Many thanksHow much would i it cost for a VW Beetle?I disagree with answer 1, not all beetles are unreliable though a bad one can be a nightmare. Key points are look for one with a properly rebuilt engine that has a good service record since rebuild as servicing is the key to a long life with air cooled engines. next check it has really good condition heat exchangers (part of the exhaust system) as these are expensive. other important bit in engine bay is oil cooler/fan/alternator system as without these working properly the engine will cook itself in a terminal way (been there done that). On the body work front watch out for rust as pretty much all of it seems to cause mot failure if bad ! My advice would be to find a friendly local vw club or enthusiast to help you . these are great cars but yes they are old technology so don't expect mod cons or comfort, the upside of being old is no nasty electronics to go wrong, a decent amateur mechanic can do even fairly major work with normal tools - spanners sockets and such like. Do some research have a drive or at least a few rides in a beetle and go into it with open eyes but be aware a good un ain't going to be cheap to buy. look after a good one though and it won't loose value the same as a more modern car so swings and roundabouts !How much would i it cost for a VW Beetle?Unless you have mechanical expertise or deep pockets don't buy an old beetle. Whatever you pay you will be into constant expenditure. They may look attractive, but they are old technology and unreliable. It takes a true expert to tell a good example from a poor one as the air cooled engine sounds like a bag of spanners to the untrained ear!
The appearance of a car should not be the only criteria for purchase. You have to consider reliability, running costs, availability of spares, safety features etc.
I don't suppose I have put you off, but remember what I have said when it lets you down time and time again. Oh, and join the AA.How much would i it cost for a VW Beetle?first answer is a good one take heed forget it, i used to be an MOT tester many years ago beetles were bad then so unless its been properly rebuilt it will be bodged up and more trouble than its worth
