Do I have to go to dealer to fx my VW?

I have a 2000 VW Jetta. The engine light is on in my car and they told me it was gonna cost like $700 to get everything fixed at the dealer. I know VW are kind of complicated cars and sometimes you can only get certain things from the dealer. They said I need to replace mall air flow sensor, air filter, and broken vacuum line. Could I get all this fixed cheaper at a place like AAMCO or should I just take it back to the dealer?Do I have to go to dealer to fx my VW?Find a mechanic that can fix foreign cars. Look in the phone book online to see mechanics that fix VWs. I had an engine light problem that kept coming on, and the dealer wanted to keep charging me. Nothing was wrong, the fees were expensive. Dont waste your money with the dealer. try other places, u only go to the dealer if u are told by mechanics that they cant fix it, and the dealer has to. Good luck.Do I have to go to dealer to fx my VW?
Try asking a family member.Get second opinions. Is your vw under warranty? The dealer is a very expensive place to fix a car. Try autozone, ask them to use a code reader to find why your check engine light stays on(it may be free)as it can pinpoint the problem.Air filter$15.00+vacuum line$1.00

Do I have to go to dealer to fx my VW?go to autozone or advance and have them run a diagnostic code test on it. They will tell you what needs to be repaired then you can fix it yourself or sometimes if is minor they will help youDo I have to go to dealer to fx my VW?
yes most definitely the dealer always charges more for parts and labor than a local mechanic the air flow sensor is the most costly for the part itself airfilter and vacuum line are usually pretty cheap id buy the parts at a part store then take it to your local mechanic lots cheaper. good luckDo I have to go to dealer to fx my VW?Not necessarily but you will need to find a mechanic that can work in imports.Do I have to go to dealer to fx my VW?
Yes. You can get it done at an AAMCO but it's like going to a general physician when you can go to a specialist. You will get better but will you be backed by the manufacturers official training and warranty its a gamble but it's a small one. It really all depends on the quality of work they AAMCO have a reputation for. Hope it helps
