Are artichokes and spinach related? There are definitely a lot of recipes combining the two.?

I believe they are both Mediterranean in origin. Are artichokes and spinach related? There are definitely a lot of recipes combining the two.?
Short answer: They are not related.

The artichoke (Cynara scolymus) is a perennial in the thistle group of the sunflower family and is believed to be a native of the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands.

Spinach (Spinacia oleracea) is a flowering plant in the family Amaranthaceae, native to central and southwestern Asia. It is an annual plant (rarely biennial)

The only relationship is they both taste great. Are artichokes and spinach related? There are definitely a lot of recipes combining the two.?
not sure, but they go well together, i dont think artichoke is used so much in mediterranean dishes.
